A Safety Management Plan

When assisting you in the development of your new SMS program, or if enhancing your current program, it is critical that your organization has a clear SMS policy that is adhered to as a key corporate value. Your robust Safety Management Plan should include 4 principles:

  • The Policy – A definition of the approach your organization will adopt for managing safety, including a safety policy that clearly defines the approach to safety and the performance goals you have established.
  • Roles and Responsibilities – your organization requires defined roles and responsibilities for all personnel involved in safety.
  • A description of your SMS program elements – A description of the safety management system components in your program, such as (but not limited to) Safety Planning, Objectives and Goals.
  • A description of how safety performance is measured -A description of how your organization will actively monitor and measure proactively and reactively safety performance.
