Steve is the Founder of Aviation Safety Management Inc. The Mission of ASM Inc is to “Deliver expertise, ideas and positivity, that continually builds culture and drives team effectiveness to the benefit and safety of all.”
To achieve our mission, Steve’s vision is to be the respected source of expertise in Airline and Aviation Safety Management. Guiding executives and senior leaders to eliminate risk and build strong, safe and just cultures within their business and the industry.
About Steve
Steve’s passion for both aviation and safety began more than 36 years when he joined the United Kingdom’s Royal Air Force as a 17 year old as an aircraft engineer. After his military service, spending more than 9 years on a fast jet squadron and serving on many operations in the 1990’s, he left to continue his life in Canada.
After emigrating to Canada, Steve continued his aviation career. Firstly, as a licensed Avionics Engineer, working in airline operations (line/heavy maintenance) and approved maintenance organizations before becoming a Maintenance Controller for many years, gathering immense experience in the operations of major aviation organizations. He then entered management as the “Person Managing Safety Management System” for a major airline operation. To not lose touch with his roots, he also continues to provide avionics installation services to the general aviation sector through his other organization Calgary Avionics.
Steve’s passion and his drive to make safety in aviation as natural and automatic as breathing, lead to desire to manage the SMS program for an major operator for more than 9 years. His understanding and knowledge of SMS programs within different aviation sectors, different teams within organizations (Flight Ops, Tech Ops, Inflight, Airports and OSH etc.) and within the world-wide aviation industry has earned the respect of his peers, executives, industry bodies and regulators.
With Steve’s leadership, understanding of the importance of team engagement, trust and action, paired with his exceptional experience and knowledge, ASM will provide thoughtful and effective guidance on meeting the needs of any organization looking to implement an SMS program or improve their own existing program. Steve lives in Calgary, Alberta with his wife, two teenage sons and their two dogs.
